Borderlands Conservation Costa Rica

Area   Approx. 146,000 acres
  extends along the border with Nicaragua, from the Pacific Coast to the Caribbean Coast.
Date of Creation   15 Feb 1994


Park Attractions

The intention of this zone is to give protection in order for the forest to recuperate from past degeneration. It crosses the entire spectrum of life zones, from Pacific Coastal to rainforest and mountains, and again to the coastal zone of the Caribbean.

The zone hosts many research projects of the varying disciplines, as well as university monitoring programs. For more information on research projects in the area, contact MINAE at 

Park Facilities and Hours

There are no public facilities in this area. Other Costa Rica Parks near the northern borderlands include Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Guanacaste National Park, La Selva Protected Zone, and Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge.
